Walking and Meditation on Easter

Paul,Jen,Kathy sneakers with Tink
Happy Easter Monday! Yesterday was cool, sunny, and a perfect family and walking day. By the time this photo was taken we had changed from our church shoes: here you see my son-in-law, my middle daughter, and myself. And Tink in her Easter necklace! She loves to dress up. She missed the first 2.8 miles as the others in our group had walked to and from church. Tink led us through our final 1.7 loop in the neighborhood. My son is in the restaurant business so he was busy and not able to share in this time with us.

It was my first 4.5 day in quite awhile; I definitely 'felt' it in my feet by the end of the day. So, after the kids left I did the simple yoga stretch of getting vertical on a good wall. I do not know the name of the pose - only that it works! You lay on the ground and 'rest' your legs at a 90 degree angle up the nearest wall. This causes the blood to recirculate and as you practice this move, you can take longer stretches. If you want, you can also meditate in this position. I prefer to rest in this position awhile, then meditate in a sitting pose.

A superb place to find positive and life-filling information on this is the Sacred Forms site. Go to the Meditate link to learn more about meditating, and how it is highly personal for each of us. The Gallery link will give you endless possibilities of sacred forms for your meditations.

That sounds like a great way to spend Easter. I enjoy walking, running, and meditation as well. Many people leave out the most important part of exercise: stretching. So, good for you and your family for remembering to stretch!

I checked out the Sacred link to meditation you have in this post. It was very informative and helpful. I liked this line the best, "Relax, meditation is not about struggle, enjoy each moment… Smile." There is such truth to that! Meditation is challenging becuase it forces us to sit still and do nothing, but it is a great way to find moments of peace in a hectic day. Thanks!

Sounds like your Easter was fun. I started reading your blog because I am trying to loose some way myself, and I like to walk. I used to do it with my husband until he started working different schedules. I am afraid of just walking by myself, but reading today's blog it gave me strenght to just get my dogs right now and walk the neighborhood for a while. I also checked the website Sacred Forms and I loved reading about meditating. I love to meditate and relax and just go to a place to after a walk that I can just block everything.
Really nice blog. Keep it up!

I have to congratulate you on how often you get out and walk! I reserve Saturday and Sunday mornings for 2.3 miles (or 4.6 if I am feeling ambitious.) I look forward to it all week long, and sometimes even if it is sprinkling a little, I will go anyway.
Now that the days are longer and it is warmer, I can't wait until school calms down and I can go for after-dinner walks. I don't think anything else is a good for the mind and the body. The release of endorphins from exercise is all it takes to make you forget about the stress of your day.
Keep up the good work with your walking! You are doing yourself a huge favor by taking such good care of your body.

Thanks so much for the support back on my blog. It's been so much fun...hopefully I'll stay motivated and keep it up. Now if I could just stop drinking and start walking. I used to be a lean 185 (back in high school). Now I'm a not so lean 240 (just four years later). I blame it on college and beer, both. And you know I'd heard about the weird PA blue laws...they can't sell in gas stations I think? Weird, weird, weird. Very puritanical.

You must be the same age as my son. When he was playing hockey in NY in high school he was 165 dripping wet. I think he's around 215-220 now!

PA won't allow sales in gas stations. And you can't get beer/wine in grocery stores either. Though I think there are a few chains now (patronage) who are allowed. Also, the beer is sold from a separate beer distribution store. Crazy.
